The Great JAM Getaway
Laggan Village, near Newtonmore, welcomed the JAM group to their village hall for the weekend on 17th – 19 June 2011. After tea on the Friday night, everyone went out for an ‘explore’ of the village, and then enjoyed a DVD in the lounge/games room, which doubled up as the girls dorm. Breakfast was early on Saturday morning as the shops of Inverness were calling to the 6 girls and the Wolf Trax mountain biking trails to the 4 lads and Rachel.
Everyone enjoyed their morning activities, and then met up at 2pm in Inverness at the Swimming Pool where they had fun on the flumes, some even going down ‘Nessie’s Back’ an almost vertical drop! With outside pool area, rapids and wave machine, it was 2 hours of action packed fun.
We had dinner back at the hall followed by ‘Laggan’s got Talent’ in the large hall which had a great stage for us to perform on (the boys also slept there!) We welcomed two children who live next door to the Hall to come and join in the games. Jenny and Emma won the competition with their comical act.
We are very grateful to Dave Cruickshanks (Iain’s wee brother) and his fiancée Wendy Buckman who live in Laggan, and were happy to join in and help out with the weekend – their son James also joined in with the activities.
Sunday morning we were welcomed into Laggan Church, where the minister Rev. Catherine Buchan had even changed their ‘family service’ day to accommodate us – now that is a welcome! Lachlan was also given the very important job of ringing the bell to call folks to worship.
After Church, Iain took some of the bikers went back to Wolf Trax and the rest of the team went to Loch Laggan to swim at the beautiful sandy beach. With the sun shining on the small patches of snow on Creag Meaghaidh and the majestic castle of Ardverikie in the distance (home of Monarch of the Glen) it was the perfect end to the weekend.
After lunch and tidying/packing up, we all headed home for the 5pm ferry. Many thanks to everyone for a fantastic weekend.
