Kenneth Ross has been minister of the Netherlorn Churches since March 2010. Based at the Manse in Kilmelford, he covers a fair mileage each month as he gets around the Netherlorn area.
Ken has wide experience of ministry, teaching, writing and church leadership, both in Scotland and internationally. He sees his ministry in Netherlorn as having three main strands:
- It is a parish ministry, embracing everyone. He made a point of calling at every home during his first year in Netherlorn and thoroughly enjoys community life.
- It is an enquiring ministry, asking questions about what it means to follow Jesus in today’s world and open to new perspectives, particularly those offered by young people.
- It is an enabling ministry, encouraging people to discover their gifts and use them to maximum effect in church and community.
Ken is married to Hester, a native of Islay, who tutors with the Open University. They have three grown-up sons currently based in Glasgow, London and New York. The family lived in Malawi for eleven years and retain close links.
Ken was Moderator of the Presbytery of Argyll in 2015-16 and is responsible for the pastoral care of ministers in northern Argyll. Nationally he chairs the Scotland-Malawi Partnership and internationally he serves as a consultant to the World Council of Churches.
In his spare time Ken is likely to be found in the Manse garden, on Loch Melfort doing his bit for coastal rowing in the skiff “Gill of Melfort”, or out on the hills in Netherlorn and beyond.
